Business Plan
In mid 2022 we plan to begin construction on a new state of the art slaughterhouse and cut & wrap meat processing facility in Alameda. Our intention is to begin operation of this facility in 2023 and ramp up to full capacity within the year.

We are applying the principles of a cooperative structure and leveraging the knowledge, experience, capabilities, and competencies of local ranchers, farmers and butchers to increase meat production capacity and make our goal a reality.

We believe our solid business plan, great quality and capacity, will provide a return on investment to shareholders who invest in the business and in the community.

How We Started & Where We Are Going
In early 2021 a steering committee of approximately 15 producers came together to discuss the impact of Davis Meats closing in the next 5 - 10 years. After much deliberation, a board of directors was formed and connected with Cooperatives First to incorporate and develop a share structure.
The board worked with James Grieve of Catalyst Strategies Consulting to create a solid business plan to guide next steps. In August 2021 the cooperative was officially incorporated and began the drive to sell shares totaling $1 million.

Looking ahead, we plan to construct a 50' x 100' facility near the current abattoir. Upon completion, we estimate eventual capacity to increase by 300% to 20 local cattle per week. Additionally, the updated cut & wrap facilities will enable opportunities for pork, bison, sheep, wild game, etc.

The retail store will offer value added, over the counter meat products, pre-cooked meals, house made pizzas, etc. A delivery truck will take our products beyond the local market.

Having a skilled, experienced Butcher to carry on the core values of Davis Meats and a General Manager as the architect of efficient and effective business systems will be the backbone of our business.

We plan to hire more than 15 full and part time staff as well as seasonal students to promote the mentorship model and build upon the past successes of Davis Meats. Attracting and hiring skilled employees will contribute to the tax base and community growth.
